Real estate question
21st-Jul-2012 06:52 pm
Too true

So I'm needing to move at the end of the year, and am thinking of moving into one of those town house - gated community type places- I can't think of the word for them, but where you rent through body corporate and there's a pool and stuff. Is there a website that lists those kind of places rather than just going through domain dot com.

I'm talking similar to http://www.centenaryquays.com.au/

Do you mean a rental with onsite management? We own an apartment and our body corp doesn't have anything to do with rentals, all the apartments that are rented out are through different real estate agents or are private rentals.

The previous apartment I lived in had onsite management, we knew we wanted to live in that specific building and then went straight to building management and viewed/applied that way. I know when we moved out it was advertised on realestate.com.au (we broke our lease so I know it was advertised in a few places).

I think maybe googling "gated townhouse" or "onsite management" with the suburb you want might give you better results.

Just a word of warning, body corps (or strata some places call it) can be either a bonus or a complete pain in the neck. They're often pedantic and nitpicky over the by laws. If you can, ask to see a copy of the by laws before you apply. We're on our body corporate committee and some of our by laws are ridiculous. And there's always one or two people who will complain and make your life hell if you even think about breaking a by law. In our case we're the ones that have to listen to the whingers who make the complaints. (sorry for the rant!)

Luxury units is what they're usually called. Cathedral Palace in the Valley is one, and there are more in Bowen Hills and Toowong.
